India’s current 3G penetration is quite low with around 90 million odd 3G subscribers.3G penetration is still in teens at many leading operators which is a huge concern with huge investments in CAPEX but not enough scale yet.
Hence, we could learn from China Mobile which is an interesting case here which has gone through the similar trend but the 4G launch has turned the tide and the growth has been unprecedented since There are high chances India’s 4G subscriber uptake will be much higher and faster than for what 3G has been once the LTE coverage proliferates in next two years or so. Players like Reliance Jio and Airtel will their aggressive deployments, plans will drive similar LTE growth and uptake in India in coming 36 months.
To give some background about the case here, China Mobile is the world's largest mobile operator with more than 816 million mobile subscribers almost bigger than all subscribers in USA + Japan + Korea + UK + Germany combined. This is the scale China Mobile possesses and is huge for all players in the ecosystem.
