Mobile and Sync

One of the biggest drivers behind the renewed interest in time and synchronization is the mobile industry.

The latest generation of mobile technology requires that the basestations are not only synchronized in frequency, but in time too. This is because many of the techniques used for increasing capacity in the mobile network require the basestations to co-operate with each other on a timely basis.

Now people are starting to talk about “5G”. While it isn’t fully defined yet, the techniques being proposed have an ever-increasing reliance on accurate time across the network. This will require a new generation of time and synchronization equipment to deliver time accurate to a fraction of a microsecond.

For more information on the synchronization requirements of different mobile network technologies, see this white paper on our website here.
